December 9, 1887
Rube Burrow and his gang of outlaws, then Jim Burrow and William Brock, robbed a train in Arkansas, making off with approximately $2,000. The robbery caught the attention of the Pinkerton Detective Agency, who were charged with protecting the train through one of their clients, the Southern Express Company. The agency quickly tracked the men down and arrested Brock and Jim, with Rube narrowly escaping after shooting an officer. Continuing to rob trains, Rube was finally apprehended in 1890 and died in a shootout at the jail in Linden after attempting to escape.
