Cullman’s city committee held a kickoff ceremony at the Cullman Depot on March 3, honoring the date Congress passed an act that created the Alabama Territory in 1817. The festivities included a performance of “Stars Fell on Alabama” by students from West Elementary School and the Wallace State Jazz Band, as well as addresses by local dignitaries.

The Cullman Bicentennial Committee Chair, Drew Green, also provided an overview of the city’s upcoming celebration. In 2017, the year of Discovering Our Places, Cullman will host historic walking tours, a 5K run featuring historic sites, and a presentation by Delos Hughes, author of Historic Alabama Courthouses: A Century of Their Images and Stories.
