Alabama Bicentennial Summer Institutes

The Alabama Bicentennial Summer Institutes provide teachers in grades 3 through 5 with Alabama history-focused professional development. Led by twelve Master Teachers from across Alabama, the Summer Institutes will train 300 teachers each summer from 2017 to 2019. Each 3.5-day institute will involve hands-on exploration of Alabama history; modeling of interdisciplinary pedagogy; instruction from experts in history, anthropology, and folkways; field trips to local historical and cultural sites; and much more. Each participant will receive a stipend, lunch, free supplies and resources, and STI PD credit. The Alabama Bicentennial Summer Institutes are provided in partnership with the Alabama State Department of Education and the Alabama Department of Archives and History.
