200 Alabama Bicentennial

Celebrating Alabama’s 200th birthday2017 2018 2019

Alabama Bicentennial Education Initiatives focus on three areas: developing new and supporting existing curricular resources, professional development for classroom teachers, and supporting school projects for public, private, and homeschool students.

The first of these will debut in summer 2017 as 360 educators of grades 3-5 from across Alabama participate in professional development institutes hosted by museums and historic sites. A master teacher and a content specialist will lead each institute in an exploration of a particular period or theme in Alabama history. Participants will learn how to incorporate primary sources in their teaching and how to help their students draw connections between their communities, states, and nation.
