200 Alabama Bicentennial

Celebrating Alabama’s 200th birthday2017 2018 2019

Limestone County will celebrate its bicentennial on February 6, 2018. To commemorate the milestone, the Limestone County Bicentennial Committee is holding a birthday party celebration at the Limestone County Event Center in Athens from 5 to 8 pm.

Area musicians will play a free concert showcasing native Limestone County music--including Native American songs, African American gospel songs, and bluegrass music—with breaks featuring video birthday greetings from Limestone County notables.

Throughout the event, historic scenes of Limestone County will be shown on screens, special exhibits of art and artifacts will be on display, and selected students from Limestone County will participate in a living “wax museum.” The students will depict Limestone County history makers while sharing displays of information and stories about the historic figures.

Baked goods in the shape of Limestone County, including a cake and cookies, will be available for all guests. Attendees can also purchase food from local food trucks at the event center courtyard. The event is open to the public.
